Overview
To ensure uninterrupted service and to benefit from the latest features and security enhancements, it is strongly recommended to keep the FUYL Smart Locker System's firmware updated.
The firmware update process differs depending on the FUYL Locker and Cloud platform. Instructions are provided for each below.
FUYL Enhanced (with Kiosk) Firmware Update
FUYL Enhanced offers the most streamlined update experience with automatic and manual options.
Automatic Updates
Updates apply automatically overnight if lockers are connected to the cloud. Updates will automatically roll back if interrupted (eg power or connectivity issues).
Manual Updates
Updates can be initiated manually using the update firmware icon in the actions column from the Stations area in the FUYL Portal.
FUYL Classic (Essentials/Advanced) Firmware Update
FUYL Classic provides both automatic and manual update options through the dashboard.
Automatic Updates
Updates can be configured to apply automatically overnight if lockers are connected to the cloud, and will roll back if interrupted (power/connectivity issues).
- Select the "Account" level node in the dashboard
- Enable automatic updates in the "settings" area of the right-hand menu
Ensure the time-zone is correctly configured in the same "settings" area
Manual Updates
Updates can be applied manually in the "Settings" area of the right-hand menu when a specific station is selected in the dashboard.
Standalone or Offline Firmware Updates
For standalone or offline lockers, updates are applied by directly connecting to the onboarding/diagnostic portal of the locker itself.
Detailed SWU Update Instructions
- Download the latest firmware update file from here. Store this on the computer used to perform the update.
- Access the Onboarding Portal of the FUYL Locker either;
-
When Connected to an Existing Network:
- Use the locker's admin menu (Bay "00" & an Admin PIN/RFID) to determine the portal address and port (System Status → Network Status)
- Navigate to that address (must include the https:// and port :4000) using a browser on the same network
This may raise a warning about a self-signed certificate. This is safe to "Proceed Anyway".
-
When not Connected to an Existing Network:
- Connect to the locker using an ethernet cable direct to the computer
- Reboot the locker
- Use the locker's admin menu (Bay "00" & an Admin PIN/RFID) to determine the portal address and port (System Status → Network Status)
- Navigate to that address (must include the https://) using the browser
This may raise a warning about a self-signed certificate. This is safe to "Proceed Anyway".
-
- Sign in with "admin" and an Admin PIN as the password (same as used above)
- Accept the End User Licensing Agreement
- Click on the "Version" tag at the top right of the screen
- Click "Choose File" and upload the SWU.
This may take some time as it's a large file, so be patient and wait for confirmation. - Click "Update Now" and the locker will update and reboot. The browser window can now be closed
This process may also take some time (up to a minute per-bay) as it may also update the firmware in each of the bays themselves.
Important: If further configuration of networking and/or onboarding of the locker is intended, wait for the update to complete before accessing the Onboarding Portal and continuing.
SD Card Replacement
In rare cases, an SD card may need to be flashed and potentially replaced on a FUYL MK1 or MK2.
- Download the latest firmware image from here. Store this on the computer used to perform the update
This image is exclusively for FUYL 5 and FUYL15 MK2 hardware. For MK1 images, contact support. - Download and install Balena Etcher from here (an alternative flashing tool can be used if preferred)
- Use Balena Etcher to flash the .img file to an (ideally new, 8Gb+ Class10+) microSD card. This process varies by system, but is relatively straight forward (contact support if unsure)
- With the power removed from the FUYL Locker (precaution) open the control bay door using the lock/key on the front
- Remove the old microSD card from the compute module on the back of the door
- Insert the new microSD card securely into the control bay door then close and lock it
- Power on the locker
Cloud-Connected Stations Only:
Once booted, enter the admin menu by selecting bay 00 when prompted and using the default pin; 31082018
- Select option 2 (System Status) then option 1 (Network Status)
- Contact support with the Ethernet MAC and WiFi MAC details of your Locker to allow reactivation in the cloud.
